Projects of the Sugar King foundation

The Sugar King Foundation is a non-profit organization formed on the island of Saipan, capital of the Northern Mariana Islands, to assist in the collection and preservation of historic artifacts and memories of the peacetime Japanese Administration of the island prior to WWII. Our organization is especially dedicated to the memory of Mr. Haruji Matsue, the successful "Sugar King" business entrepreneur who founded the Nanyo Kohatsu Kaisha (NKK) Company.

Our organization was founded in November 1997 by Foundation President Keiichiro Saeki, grandson of the Sugar King and a JAL Hotels executive. Other officers include Vice President Lynn Knight, president of the Saipan Chamber of Commerce and an owner of small businesses on Saipan, and Secretary/Treasurer Youichi Niizeki, a business executive with the JAL Foundation in Tokyo, Japan.

We provide support to such organizations as the Northern Marianas Museum of History & Culture, the Sugar King Park, and other worthwhile historical preservation and tourism projects on the island of Saipan. For more information, please read on or contact us at: president@sugarking.org.
